We are very experienced at shipping heavy packages such as salt and our warehouse will normally process an order within 24 hours of receiving it. We do not normally offer for sale any product that is out of stock and all orders must be paid for before delivery is made. We normally expect all orders to be delivered in 7 days or less after our receiving that order.
We will tell you if the delivery method that we choose means you will not receive your salt within 2 working days. If you do not receive our email and your order is late, you should contact us. If the goods are damaged in transit you must tell us within 24 hours of it having been delivered so that we can make a prompt claim against the delivery company and resolve the problem. Please quote your order number in all correspondence.
We use a variety of methods to ensure that the order is delivered as efficiently and as economically as possible;
Our Own Transport – we utilise a variety of different sized vehicles to carry out deliveries by our own staff. These vary in size between 1 pack / bag and whole pallets by the lorry load and we make that decision based on existing orders, staff availability, delivery cost comparison and other factors. It is always our best intention to deliver orders this way within 7 days of the order being placed.
It is a flexible decision to deliver using our own vehicle and subject to change at short notice. When salt is delivered using this method, the salt is not placed in additional packaging and it is always left safe if the customer is not in. A GPS tracked photograph is taken at the delivery point confirming location and product / quantity delivered. Paperwork is put in the mail box.
If you are in when the delivery arrives, and the driver has knocked, they will place the salt inside the front door or in a garage for you at their discretion, based on workload, weather conditions etc. Once they have put the salt down they are not obliged to pick it up and move it so please be timely with your response at the door.
UK based Courier – we use a UK based courier for all deliveries that conform with the courier rules when we decide that we will not deliver in our own vehicle. The couriers have a delivery model which excludes certain areas of the UK from their standard charges. These are: The Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Man, Isle of White, Northern Ireland, Eire & the Channel Islands.
We can deliver to these areas but there will be an additional cost to the customer for the delivery charges. All orders to be delivered to any of these areas will need to be placed manually over the telephone to include this cost, otherwise they are likely to be cancelled.
Courier deliveries are always economy – up to 3 days. However, the courier can at their own discretion deliver at any time including overnight if they choose. Premium services such as overnight, pre-12 noon, Saturday delivery are available at additional cost and orders requiring this must be brought to our attention, preferably before they are placed because, once they have been processed we will not attempt to find them in the warehouse to change them due to the large volume.
Couriers can leave the delivery safe if they choose to do so. When you place an order with us, we accept the courier’s terms of delivery and you accept them by placing your order. We insist that GPS tracking is used for courier deliveries and we will assist you in resolving any issues when you ask us to. You agree that proof of delivery supplied by our delivery company is sufficient evidence to establish that goods have been received.
SALT is heavy. Typically, a carton dispatched in the courier system is 24 or 25 kilogrammes in weight. You placed the order, you know what is inside. If this is too heavy for you to safely carry or pick up, then open the carton and remove the salt in smaller packs. If you normally buy 25 kilogramme bags of salt tablets or granules, then know that we sell 10 kilogramme bags with a carry handle – don’t struggle and hurt yourself.
Small Orders – any order that weighs under 2 kilogrammes could potentially be dispatched using a postal service from Royal Mail / Parcelforce. It might take 24 hours for these to be dispatched because we need to take them to a local post office. A tracking service is normally used. If an additional charge is required for this service, you will be informed when you place the order.
Pallet Haulier – This is for large orders on pallets. Any order of 240 kilogrammes or more is likely to be delivered using this method. Pallets are sent on an economy service which for most of the UK is 3 days although an overnight delivery is available for an additional charge. Please note the drivers do NOT have access to a forklift and so if you as the customer do not have the ability to unload the salt then the driver will use the tail lift to drop the salt at the roadside. It will be your responsibility to unload the pallet, at your convenience. The driver will not wait and will not dispose of the pallet for you. Orders over 1000 kilogrammes will require a fork lift to unload and / or move the pallet(s). If you do not have one, then we reserve the right to charge an additional fee to cover any costs incurred with the delivery once it has been dispatched. If no fork lift is available when the delivery arrives, it might be returned to the delivery depot or to us and it might be cancelled. All of these costs would be deducted from any refund.
Collection – all orders can be collected at the customer’s discretion. The size of the order will determine if it is collected from our shop or from our warehouse, so the customer must communicate with us prior to collection. Warehouse collections must be booked so that we can have the order prepared and ready. No orders can be collected without payment having been made beforehand and no payments are accepted at our warehouses.
